In order to use a genlock on the Amiga (this applies to the Toaster as well),
your workbench screen mode MUST be in an NTSC video mode. This means that you
cannot use any of the video cards for the Amiga and a genlock at the same time,
unless you re-set the output mode to an NTSC-compatible mode while you're using
the genlock or Toaster. This only applies to the Workbench and the Toaster
software itself. You CAN re-target other software to the video card while the
Toaster is running, you just can't send the workbench or the Toaster software
there.
I myself have a Spectrum card, and really like it's "two monitor" mode when
using a Toaster. I can have the Toaster software running happily on a A1084
monitor, while a nice non-flickering 24-bit paint program is happily running
over on the multisync monitor. When I'm not using the Toaster, a few mouse
clicks sets things up to ALWAYS run on the Spectrum monitor, including
workbench.
To solve your problem, turn off the Workbench emulation, and make sure the
software is set to ignore the Toaster software, too. Hook up a 1084 monitor to
the standard RGB port, and the Toaster will run fine. Your other software that
can be sent to the Retina will show up on the Retina monitor.
